The Nova/Link Difference
Our business format is one where we contract with our clients to manufacture their products for them. We are the incorporated entity in Mexico and can handle all of the business processes in Mexico. Our clients provide us with the equipment and raw materials and schedule the production. We handle the management of the employees and all of the processes in Mexico. The projects with our clients range from 20 operators in 3,000 square feet to 500 operators in 40,000 square feet. The way we have structured the business is one where the size of the program can start small and grow into whatever size the client wants. The client pays us for what they use when they use it.
Nova/Link's management and ownership has years of manufacturing, engineering and logistics experience. We have worked with diverse clients, and have learned to look at scenarios from multiple perspectives. When combined with our client's intimate knowledge of their industry, we can deliver an experience that is proactive rather than reactive.
Nova/Link is the only Maquiladora that provides the full range of manufacturing services needed to create a smooth transition for clients bringing their manufacturing operations to Mexico. We learn the process from our clients, manufacture and distribute clients products, provide a trained engineering staff to support the running of production facilities, offers cross-border transportation services, reduce client costs by providing the exact amount of space they need, manage labor need fluctuations, and have the capabilities and know-how to grow with our clients. |

History
Following this initial success, it was only a question of time, to enable this dynamic combination to assist and facilitate the partial and total relocation of more Fortune 500 companies, such as: Delco Electronics, Inland, and Guide divisions of General Motors, Magnetek, Mitsubishi - Heavy Steel Division, Trico, and a 1,000,000 sq. ft. twin plant relocation concept amongst many others.
In 1988, René González and Bill Wolfe developed the NOVA/LINK concept - a vision of providing vertical integration for manufacturers and facilitating the relocation of their operations into Mexico. Using their combined experiences with companies such as FINSA Industrial Parks & General Motors; René & Bill were able to assist and facilitate the partial and total relocations for several Fortune 500 companies such as 3 divisions of General Motors, Magnetek Mitsubishi, and Trico. |
Today, NOVA/LINK remains a family business headed by the González & Wolfe families. NOVA/LINK has become a leading manufacturing partner with a unique business model. We continue to provide our clients with a low-risk solution to achieving a reduction in manufacturing costs while maintaining the highest quality standards. |
Our Clients
Over the years, we’ve assisted companies like General Motors, Magnetek, Trico Technologies and others in setting up stand-alone “Maquiladora” operations on the U.S/Mexico border, and we’ve incorporated over fifty companies into our NOVA/LINK Shelter program. Some of the clients we’ve served are world-class corporations including brands such as Amerex Fire Extinguishers, Cabela’s, Eddie Bauer, Franklin Aircraft, Fruit of the Loom, Lands End, LL Bean, Milliken, Nike, Patagonia, Powell Electric, Sea Doo, Titleist, Toyota, and VF Knitwear. |
Infrastructure
We are held to the strictest of standards. We are trusted to produce goods that meet the strict quality standards of brands such as British Airways, Disney, Nike, GM and Toyota.
Nova/Link owns and operates 3 manufacturing facilities. All 3 are located in an industrial park environment, providing a dedicated space for manufacturing and integrated infrastructure. Only 60,000 sq ft or 13% of our mfg facilities are 70 miles away.
The Nova/Link distribution center in Brownsville, Texas is a full service platform capable of filling many roles. Our center provides a common location for receiving raw materials, can ship bulk products coming from Mexico, provides actual order fulfillment, assists clients in scheduling the transportation used to distribute their goods and provides the ability to store inventory materials.
In addition, Nova/Link provides clients with direct, secure access to an online information system where they can access receiving reports, shipping reports and inventory reports. Or, if a client prefers, our team can adopt the use of an already existing materials management system currently utilized by your company. We can interface with a client’s headquarters by becoming a location in their current system, thus preventing the client from having to learn and integrate a new system.

Size of Operations
The largest is a 500,000 sq ft facility in Matamoros, Mexico. We have another 60,000 manufacturing facility in Reynosa, Mexico. Finally, we have a 150,000 square foot distribution facility in Brownsville, Texas.
Space in these manufacturing facilities is apportioned for customer operations on a needed basis. Typically, a near-shore manufacturing line requires 30,000 square feet. Common facilities available for rent are 50,000 square feet. Nova/Link clients can reduce overhead expenses by paying only for occupied space, needed labor, and shipping G&A through our unique model. Currently, Nova/Link has over 30 clients producing products ranging from electronics to textiles.
The distribution facility in Brownsville includes full warehouse services for clients. This location moves approximately $2 million worth of product on a daily basis to 200 locations across the U.S. and around the world. |
Labor Force
In addition, our labor market allows us to employ several hundred temporary workers to meet seasonal demand needs and other special short term project needs. Thanks to Mexico’s many universities and technical schools, this labor force has the technical level needed to comprehend technological processes, utilize the specific training needed to manufacture any number of products, and to pass that training on to the operators that handle day to day operations. A favorable exchange-rate swing and lower overall cost of living in Mexico makes labor costs considerably lower than they are in the U.S. and other low cost countries despite high levels of technological literacy.
Turnover is low, our employees’ commitment to quality is high, and their work ethic is strong. The industry standard for employee turnover in Mexico ranges anywhere between 3% and 25% per month. Nova/Link typically maintains just a 1.2% per month turnover rate, a rate that rivals some of the lowest turnover in the contract manufacturing industry. |
